《阿甘正傳》老搭檔再攜手
《極地特快》改編自一本經(jīng)典兒童圖書(shū),講述小男孩克勞斯在圣誕節(jié)的奇遇。盡管身邊的人都認(rèn)為圣誕老人是編造的,克勞斯依然堅(jiān)信他的存在。一個(gè)雪花紛飛的平安夜,一輛巨大的蒸汽火車停在克勞斯家門口,帶領(lǐng)他去北極尋找圣誕老人。旅途中,克勞斯結(jié)識(shí)了無(wú)所不能的孤獨(dú)男孩、美麗的英雄女孩等形形色色的旅客,也遇到各種挑戰(zhàn)。最終克勞斯在列車上找到了快樂(lè),也悟出一個(gè)道理:生活中最重要的東西只能憑借感覺(jué)而存在。
這部影片是漢克斯與導(dǎo)演贊米基斯在《阿甘正傳》和《荒島余生》后的第三次合作。漢克斯在片中飾演了7歲的克勞斯、克勞斯的父親、火車列車長(zhǎng)、神秘流浪者和圣誕老人5個(gè)角色,并且擔(dān)任了配音工作。但是,只有列車長(zhǎng)與漢克斯長(zhǎng)得像,克勞斯的造型則是根據(jù)漢克斯小時(shí)候的樣子設(shè)計(jì)的。
表演時(shí)滿臉粘著傳感器
《極地特快》雖是一部用電腦制作的影片,卻與動(dòng)畫(huà)片完全不同。動(dòng)畫(huà)片中沒(méi)有真人表演,而《極地特快》中動(dòng)畫(huà)形象的一顰一笑都是真人演出來(lái)的,只不過(guò),影片使用了“動(dòng)作捕捉”這項(xiàng)革命性技術(shù),真人的演出影像被數(shù)字化了。
漢克斯在表演過(guò)程中不需要任何戲服,但要穿上裝滿感應(yīng)器的黑色緊身衣,同時(shí)在面部粘上150個(gè)感應(yīng)器,這樣,他眼瞼、嘴唇、眉毛等部位的每一個(gè)表情和動(dòng)作都可以通過(guò)傳感器被計(jì)算機(jī)準(zhǔn)確捕捉。表演完畢后,動(dòng)畫(huà)師只需為這些捕捉到的表情和動(dòng)作加上卡通形象即可。這樣,漢克斯一人分飾五角才成為可能。事實(shí)上,贊米基斯起初要求漢克斯飾演片中所有角色,但由于漢克斯實(shí)在太累,所以只接了5個(gè)角色。
由于“動(dòng)作捕捉”技術(shù)將真人動(dòng)作與數(shù)碼技術(shù)完美結(jié)合,《極地特快》不僅把原作中的油畫(huà)插圖風(fēng)格表現(xiàn)得細(xì)膩傳神,而且動(dòng)畫(huà)人物的造型與感情更像真人,因此不少影評(píng)人稱贊:人物形象完全與細(xì)致豐富的畫(huà)面融合在一起,好像連演員的DNA都被數(shù)字化了。
具有劃時(shí)代意義
美國(guó)電影界認(rèn)為,由于采用了最新的“動(dòng)作捕捉”技術(shù),《極地特快》成為一部有里程碑意義的電影,其意義不亞于第一部有聲電影《爵士歌王》。
很多人問(wèn)導(dǎo)演贊米基斯,為什么不直接把《極地特快》拍成真人片。贊米基斯列出了三條理由。第一,由于運(yùn)用了新技術(shù),《極地特快》的全部攝影是在一個(gè)倉(cāng)庫(kù)中完成的,表演區(qū)不過(guò)10平方英尺,這大大節(jié)約了拍攝資金,盡管該片制作成本高達(dá)1.65億美元,但如果全由真人實(shí)地拍攝,成本可能高達(dá)好幾億美元。第二,如果讓真人在影片中出現(xiàn),就必須放棄原書(shū)中的絢爛色彩和畫(huà)面。第三,該故事幾乎全部集中在小男孩克勞斯身上,找一個(gè)演技像漢克斯那么出色的小演員是不可能的。但為什么不干脆拍成動(dòng)畫(huà)片呢?贊米基斯說(shuō),直接由電腦制作的動(dòng)畫(huà)人物,表情動(dòng)作絕不會(huì)像真人表演那么富于變化。
